History Superior Plumbing & Heating, Inc (SPH) was founded by Marion Fox and Bob Pope in 1964.  They began as a crew of two installing commercial and residential heating conversion systems when Anchorage made the switch from oil to natural gas in the mid-1960s.  Jan van den Top joined the company in 1978, bringing his training and experience as a mechanical engineer on board .  From those humble, no nonsense beginnings and backed by early success, Superior Plumbing and Heating, Inc. moved into new construction in Anchorage and later expanded into all areas of the State, helping to build Alaska from the inside out.    In 1983 SPH started a service department, allowing them to do in house control work and maintenance on installed  systems after completion.  The department eventually became a a LINC service contractor and in 2004 became Superior Mechanical Service. In April of 1994 SPH purchased Alaska Sheet Metal, Inc. expanding their capabilites in fabrication and installation and in 2004 they added Haakenson Electric to include a complete efficient electrical system as part of the overall package. The employee's of SPH began an employee ownership quest in 1996 and in the winter of 2004 became a 100% employee owned company.  Out of this endeavor, THE SUPERIOR GROUP, INC. (TSGI)  was formed as the corporate entity for:  Superior Plumbing and Heating, Alaska Sheet Metal, Haakenson Electric and Superior Mechanical Service.      In a continuing effort to provide in-house design for the systems we bid and install and increase our customer service TSGI purchased Support Services of Alaska in 2006 enhancing the in house design team.   Today, The Superior Group, Inc. serves general contractors and building owners as a full service mechanical and electrical contractor, whose work is backed by our long-standing quality and experience.  We field an all-pro team with extensive credentials, headed by Corporate General Manager, Mike Blake.  Though competition has come and gone, we have adapted to Alaska's continously changing market and continue to provide dependable service to our clients.  We offer a total package of design, installation, maintenance and electrical services.  We have a strong past, a bright future and the quality committment that employee ownership brings. Installation You can confidently turn to Haakenson Electric, Alaska Sheet Metal and Superior Plumbing  and Heating for an accurate installation of your electrical, heating and air conditioning and plumbing systems. The same skilled professional touch that our companies bring to fabrication carries through installation. Our careful installation processes, with an eye for detail, are conducted step by step under the supervision of project engineers, with continuous support from the design team. All phases of our installations are double checked to ensure quality control, so we can correct any problems before the job is finished. We keep you up to date on our progress and performance from the initial design through final installation. When the job is finished, we provide your client with a complete manual on the design, technical specifications, maintenance schedules and warranties for the system.
